An Evening with Lyn Hancock: Looking for the Wild: October – 19, 2023

Enjoy an evening with Lyn Hancock as she shares her love of nature and the accounts of her coast-to-coast travel adventure across North America from Newfoundland to the Pribilof islands in the Bering Sea “Looking for the Wild”.

Lyn Hancock was born and raised in Western Australia, hitchhiked through Africa, taught school in Australia, England, and Canada, and received several degrees in English, education, communications, and drama. She is a photojournalist, wildlife photographer, and award-winning book author.

Lyn spent many years with camera and notebook in hand as she wandered through British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. She has recorded her experiences in thousands of magazine and newspaper articles, and 20 books.

Lyn has also famously raised numerous orphaned wild animals, including bears, cougars, eagles, puffins, raccoons, and seals; her experiences while doing so have formed the basis of many of her books, including There’s a Seal in my Sleeping Bag, There’s a Raccoon in my Parka, Love Affair with a Cougar, and Tabasco the Saucy Raccoon.

Simon Fraser University awarded Lyn with a 2009 Outstanding Alumni Award for Arts & Culture and the New York Times once wrote she “had enough energy and enthusiasm to light up the streets of New York.”
