Nature Nanaimo’s next regular meeting will be held on Thursday, April 15th at 7 PM via Zoom. Our presentation will be:

“Spring flora around Nanaimo with Caroline Josefsson”

An overview of the most abundant and charismatic spring flora that we encounter around town.

At an early age, Caroline Josefsson became indoctrinated by her grandmothers to be interested in plants. At the Swedish University of Agriculture, in her native Sweden, she pursued an undergraduate degree in Horticulture and Biology.  For her doctorate, at the University of Washington in Seattle, she studied gene deregulation as a consequence of hybridization in the plant model system Arabidopsis. Caroline joined the Biology department at Vancouver Island University in 2009. At VIU, she teaches Botany and Plant Biology, as well as courses in genetics and biochemistry. Outside of work, Caroline has a deep interest in the Garry oak ecosystem and native plant propagation.
