UPCOMING OUTINGS:
Gold Star Wildflower Ramble Jack Point – March 17th – 1:00 PM Leaders: Aline and Helmut Demoulin.
Meet at the Jack Point/Biggs Park parking lot near the end of Jackson Rd on Duke Point. Dress for the weather, bring camera, binoculars and good walking shoes. Waterproof footware is always a plusas the trail/beach can be wet. NOTE: if the weather is poor, we will delay the outing until the next day. One of our earliest and truly wonderful wildflowers displays occurs each year at Jack Point & Biggs Park. The location is home to plenty of the usual species – blue-eyed Mary, fawn and chocolate lilies and camas but it is also one of the only locations of large numbers of “gold star.”Gold star (Crocidium multicaule) is a very early blooming low growing wildflower with a bright yellow flower. These flowers have now been in bloom since the beginning of March and promise to keep putting on a beautiful display for at least a week or so. If you want to see the gold star wildflower display at Jack Point consider joining us on this ramble or plan your own outing:• Access to very good views of gold star is during LOW TIDE so it is important to time your outing (say to within an hour either side of low tide) if you want to see large patches of gold star.• Good mid-day to late afternoon low tides will be occurring from Wed March 12th – Wed Mar 20thThe time is approximately half an hour later each day. On Mar 12 there is a low tide at 11:47 AM. By Mar 20 the low tide is not until 4:19 PM•
