2025 Nature Nanaimo Student Award Recipients
Three deserving recipients were selected in 2025 for Nature Nanaimo awards and one-year membership.
Our top award of $500 went to Gabrielle Fry who graduated in June 2025 from Dover Bay Secondary School and is currently attending the University of Victoria. Gabrielle participated in nature activities in the community and at school through the school’s Rotary Interact Club. She was an Outdoor Educator with Nanaimo Science travelling to various parks and locations around Vancouver Island offering hands-on science activities to kids and families.
Runner-up awards were also given in 2025 to two other exceptional applicants:
Myriam Poirier graduated from Dover Bay Secondary School in 2025. Myriam participated in community cleanups and was an Outdoor Educator with Nanaimo Science. She was a Camp Leader at Nanaimo Science camps where she connected with scientifically inclined youth. Myriam is an avid photographer and shares her nature images to inspire others.
Sho Kkoshimizu graduated from Wellington Secondary School in 2025 and is currently attending Vancouver Island University. Sho leads by example in lifestyle choices and through activities in the school’s Climate Action Club. Sho volunteered in maintaining the school garden in summer months, watering, weeding and harvesting the bounty.
