May 24, 2024 Lantzville Beach Walk

by Rick Harbo- Marine biologist-author-photographer

Access was from Lantzville Road, down Harper Road, with parking at the end of the road.

It was a cool, windy day and the walk was interrupted by a vessel being swamped on the shore while trying to pick up people who were camping in the islands. Fortunately everyone was fine, the vessel was stablilized and pumped out and the operator was awaiting help in starting the engine or getting to a tow.

Eight of us explored some of the marine life under the rocks ( crabs, wrinkled dogwinkles, high cockscomb blennies), raked some clams (manila, littleneck, butter and mahagony clams)  in the cobble section and walked along the sandy shore, seeing horse clam siphons, buried green anemones (Anthopleura)  and sand dollars.
