Once the on the brink of extinction, the Vancouver Island Marmot is returning to the Island’s sub-alpine meadows. While its population is improving, the Marmot faces many challenges on the path to recovery. Based out of Nanaimo, the Marmot Recovery Foundation leads on-the-ground work for the marmots, including releasing captive-bred marmots to the wild, habitat enhancement, and monitoring. Executive Director Adam Taylor will introduce Vancouver Island’s unique mammal species, ongoing efforts to save the species, and the challenges ahead for Canada’s most endangered mammal.
Adam joined the Marmot Recovery Foundation in 2015, and previously worked with land trusts and other species-at-risk projects on Vancouver Island.
